Recognizing the Shift

Something has shifted.

You don’t need a headline to tell you. You can feel it in the load boards. In the gaps between decent freight. In the way weather rolls in harder and leaves faster. In the silence from dispatch when you’re waiting on clarity that used to come from a person — not a screen.

Freight patterns aren’t steady like they were. Lanes that once felt reliable now feel unpredictable. Rates swing without warning. Storm systems stack back-to-back like the seasons forgot their order.

And dispatch? It feels less like a conversation and more like a calculation. An algorithm decides what you’re worth today. You accept or decline. No nuance. No context. Just data.

Even the culture on the road feels thinner. Fewer long conversations at truck stops. More drivers staring at phones between loads. Less camaraderie. More isolation.

This isn’t nostalgia talking. It’s observation.

If you’ve been driving 10, 15, 20 years — you know the difference between a slow season and a structural shift. Between a rough year and a new era.

And if you’ve been feeling it but haven’t said it out loud, here it is:

You’re not crazy.

The road feels different because it is different.

The question isn’t whether change is happening.

The question is how we stay steady inside it.
